This is an easy recipe for a great hearty breakfast for the meat lover in most of us!

Ingredients

1 pound uncased sausage (Jimmy Dean Original?)- note most recipes us half this amount
1/3 cup flour
2 ½ cups whole milk
Salt & pepper to taste
Buttermilk biscuits

Directions

  • In al large skillet cook sausage on med heat until it is no longer pink (heavily browned)
  • Preheat oven for biscuits
  • Once the sausage is browned adjust fat in pan. You should be able to scoop 3T of grease from pan.  If extra remove, if less, add butter. Slowly add flour to meat stirring constantly to avoid clumps.
  • Put biscuits in oven
  • Turn heat to high and add milk slowly while stirring constantly to assure it mixes well and letting it bubble before adding more. Once all the milk is in, reduce heat so it simmers, stirring frequently, and cook to the required thickness.  This could take up to 10 min.  If the gravy is too thick, add more milk.  If it is to thin, continue cooking out water or add cornstarch mix (not my preferred method)
  • Salt and pepper to taste. The sausage has a lot of salt, taste first before adding
  • Don’t forget about the biscuits

Serve on open face biscuits immediately
