I am not fond of southern California and still believe we should split the state as the northern and mountain communities are not represented in the state. Really Californians, You could not repeal the gas tax (whack-a-doodles). The coast and large cities control California even though we, the rural people who make up 75% of the state, are under represented and our voices go unheard. Yes- I support the State of Jefferson like Southern Oregon, who is also not properly represented in their views and principals. That being said, I found myself working at LAX.
It was a simple enough project to build a kiosk in the international terminal of LAX which will be there for 2 to months while the permanent store is remodeled. Now I get the security of getting in and out, which I could write a whole blog on, but will not as big brother may be watching. So this structure we are building needed to be anchored to the floor. It started out as using wedge anchors but the structural engineer deemed it necessary to use epoxy anchors. Yes epoxy anchors! The terrazzo floor, newly remodeled, will have to be patched and with epoxy anchors that you cant just cut off and drive down. No they have to be cut below the floor and patch. But I am getting off point as I want to discuss the bureaucracy of California.
Since epoxy anchors were specified we had a special inspection for two nights as we were working from 11:00 pm to 6:00 am and the inspector watched us drill, vacuum, brush, and blow the holes. Then the holes were tested for depth and checked for clean. Next we had to epoxy the holes under supervision of an inspector and all had to be torque tested by the inspector. Why they could not just be tested for torque is beyond me. Now you would have thought we were good but what do I know.
Once we were anchored we had additional inspections. The airport performed a special inspection and the structural engineer, the general contractor, the installer (me), and LAWA (the airport agency- Los Angeles Word Airport) had to be there for this inspection. Now at this point you would think you would be good, but no! The next day the city of LA also had to inspect the anchors which were supervised during the entire installation process and verified by an inspector. WTF
So if you are wondering where you tax dollars are going, they are being sucked up by the government bureaucracy you dumb ass city folks keep voting for. When was the last time you saw the government workers actually working when you past them on the road after waiting for them to open the road so you can drive by.
